Something Fishy: Daisy

“Daisy” is a vibrant and whimsical exploration of beauty and identity within the aquatic realm, forming part of my ongoing series, “Something Fishy.” This piece is a combination of a linocut and a monotype printed onto 100% cotton fabric. The work embodies the playful duality of nature and artifice, presenting a shark—a creature often perceived as fierce and formidable—in a charmingly humorous light. In “Daisy,” I have reimagined the traditional image of the shark, adorning her with a delightful array of floral patterns. These delicate flowers juxtapose the strong and powerful silhouette of the shark, inviting viewers to reconsider their perceptions of beauty and grace. The floral motifs serve not only as a decorative element but also as a symbol of vulnerability, showcasing the desire for acceptance and the universal pursuit of beauty.Through the playful use of shapes and pattern, I aim to spark joy and laughter, bridging the gap between the ferocity of the ocean and the soft aesthetics of nature’s blooms. In this way, “Daisy” stands as a reminder that beauty can be found in unexpected places, and that sometimes, it is the most unlikely subjects that tell the most compelling stories. As part of the “Something Fishy” series, “Daisy” invites viewers to dive beneath the surface and explore the depths of character and charm that exist in our world, encouraging a dialogue about how we perceive and relate to the creatures that inhabit our oceans.
